Well known variety. Curled crispy dark green leaves. Resistant to cold very wet conditions.
Commonly used raw as a salad green but can be eaten cooked in stir-fries, soups or stews. An excellent crisp vegetable that will liven up salads. Eaten green, the leaves are a little bitter but blanched for a few days they develop a milder taste. Try as an interesting alternative to lettuce.
For best results sow in well-drained soil or soil that has been enriched and broken up by the addition of organic matter.
