Small, dark red, tightly packed, cabbage-like heads made up of dark burgundy red and white leaves. Heads grow to around 10 to 14cm.
The sharp flavour is an extremely popular addition to salads. Also, good steamed, sautéed, grilled and stir-fried. Can be cooked as a vegetable or eaten raw as a salad green.
Also known as Radicchio and Palla Rossa. It is famous for its beautiful heads and excellent flavour.
Sow this variety in summer for autumn to winter harvesting. Peel the outer leaves away to find the highly prized ‘ball’ inside.
